How Can I Help Kenya Link?
- Primary education is now for free but support is needed for school uniforms and shoes
- £25 will ensure a child has all he or she needs for one year in primary school.
- It costs £100 to keep a child in Secondary School for one year. This cost covers school and exam fees as well as uniform expenses.
Could you or your organisation help one child for one year?
£100 sounds like a lot of money, but broken down it works out at under £8.50 a month.
Put in perspective, if you choose to make it a class project in the school you work, then with an average class of 30 pupils that's just 28p per child per month...
Kenya Link can link you to an individual child who you can support through education.
What could the Kenya Link Project offer you?
- DEED (Development Education in Dorset) has resources that schools can use including a Kenya resource box and a Kenyan story/theatre experience for Key Stage One/Two pupilsin conjunction with Bournemouth Theatre in Education Team.
- At an inset day at Linwood School, it was shown how the project could be placed within the curriculum and linked to the UN Rights of the Child. Information on getting support and guidance from the DfES new International Links programme are available on contact.
- Some schools have held a Kenya Day, including Courthill First School. Not only has this raised awareness about the project and formed links between the schools here and in Kenya, but also was a great fun day for the schools involved.
- The opportunity to develop the links with other Kenyan schools
- Pupils in both countries can gain a better insight into each other's lives and develop close personal links
